History in the making

I was thoroughly moved by the inauguration festivities and the speech given by our new President today. Thanks to Kathy the “Crafty Chica”, I realized I should grab my camera and snap some photos of the TV screen while watching. This will be today’s Project 365 pic:

 

Not everyone at my house was as captivated with this history in the making, though. Taite kept asking when we could turn on Noggin or play Littlest Pet Shop on the Wii. Having the TV on in the morning is a rare occurrence around here, so I think she was trying to get in on the action while she could.

I told her that we were watching a very cool moment in history, and when she was a grown up, her children and grandchildren would read about it in books at school, and she would be able to tell them that she saw it on TV. She narrowed her eyes and remarked, “I’m going to tell them that it was boring.” Oh well. At least she will have the memory, even if it’s one of boredom.

Today is the 39^th anniversary of the premiere of Sesame Street. Wow! I watched the very first episode from my playpen when I was 2...or so my mom says. I don't remember that specific day, but I do have lots of great Sesame Street memories, from my childhood and from the years my own kids have watched it. My childhood favorites were Bert & Ernie, the funny little songs like this one

and the counting song where the baker always fell down the stairs at the end (did you know that baker was Jim Henson?)
