The frightening and most difficult thing about being what somebody calls a creative person is that you have absolutely no idea where any of your thoughts come from really, and especially you don't have any idea about where they're going to come from tomorrow.

from Art & Copy, a documentary about advertising and inspiration
I saw this film last night with Kendra, and really enjoyed it. There were only 9 people in the theatre, which is frankly more than I expected on a Sunday night in the OC. I chuckled while walking to my car in the almost-empty parking lot afterward. On the few remaining cars, I spotted one magnetic sign for a web design company, one art bumper sticker, and my BCRE8UV license plate. Definitely an audience of creative geeks.
Several things from the documentary stuck with me, but especially the quote above. The idea that self-doubt might be a universal truth among creatives, that I'm not the only one who experiences that sense of awe followed by blind faith that another idea will come, to hear that articulated by someone profoundly successful in a creative field, is hugely validating. And eye-opening. And thought-provoking.
