I got a desperate call from Kendra last week, exactly 18 hours before we were to leave on a road trip to Vegas. On her way home from dance, she and a friend stopped by a street where they heard there were a bunch of abandoned kittens. I said no way can we take one; we’re leaving for 4 days. But I went over there to check things out and sure enough, there was a motley little crew of 5 mismatched babies living under a bush in someone’s front yard.
Kendra’s friend was taking 2 home. The owner of the bush was keeping one and had a friend coming by to pick up another. That left one, and he was sitting on Kendra’s foot, not budging.
So I agreed that
we could board him at the vet with our cat while we were gone and figure out
what to do with him later. The vet said he was probably close to 6 weeks old,
and he weighed only 13 ounces. They got him started on antibiotics and got rid
of his fleas, and he came home with us last Saturday. The plan was to find him
a home, but he had other ideas. Like sneaking his way into my heart when I
It was already like a life-size version of Littlest Pet Shop here with 2 dogs, a cat, a turtle, and an assortment of fish. We so completely did NOT need another pet. But he needed us. And he’s really cute.
And now he has a
name, so I guess it’s official. Meet Hobie, our newest family member.
